- Prerequisite – registered nurse and midwife / health sciences qualification
- Course accredited by Wits University
- 100 credits (1 000 hours)
- Minimum of 6 months
- Maximum 2 years

- Each module has a prescribed learning activity – aimed at building up a perinatal education practice

Course 1 – Perinatal Education
Course 2 – Expectant Parents:
- pregnancy
- labour & birth
- unexpected outcomes & grieving process
Course 3 – Teaching Skills
Course 4 – Supportive techniques in childbirth
Course 5 – Promoting wellness
Course 6 – Postnatal Issues
Course 7 – Perinatal HIV (PEP program)
Practical Requirements
- Births – observe 2
- Births – support 2
- Written birth reports 4
- Attendance at CBEPF Roadshows minimum of 2 out of 3 a year
